When is enough EVER enough?

Isn’t it nice that the news media thinks it’s wacky and loopy to make sure we all know that a “Luxury Fair” for billionaires is being held in Verona, Italy? Isn’t that fun? Its downright neato to see into the lives of the jet-setters…aren’t we lucky just to have a peep? A luxury fair! Wow! Just for those people who want to buy a pair of jeans for a couple hundred thousand dollars (I’m not kidding). Or the jovial banker who has decided that gold parquet flooring is something that he just, well, needs. After all, he works hard, he deserves it!

There are more billionaires today than ever before in human history. I’ll assume my readers are intelligent and not try to defend that point against the moronic rebuttals some others might make regarding a growing population, looser international business laws, etc. The fact of the matter is that the distribution of wealth is getting more and more skewed every day. That’s not a clichéd remark: literally every day. More of the world’s money is going into the personal holdings of a smaller proportion of its population. Fewer people control more of the wealth. A lot more. But who cares, as long as we can get a glimpse of their wild excess! Its fun isn’t it? But it’s harmless, right? Who cares if those rich bastards are stupid enough to blow a quarter million dollars on a pair of pants (that are, apparently, champagne-washed), right?

I care. What the hell is wrong with us? What in the hell is going on that the balance of wealth and poverty is so bad that a handful of people can congregate at fairs (probably paid for with local tax dollars) and blow hundreds of millions of dollars on helicopters, gold floors, samurai armor, jets, Bentleys, Lamborghinis and champagne-washed jeans with gold belt loops? The problem with writing is that I can’t f**king scream right now! This is not just another gripe about rich people buying silly stuff…this is so far beyond the pale that even I, in my nearly bottomless cynicism, can barely get my head around it! PEOPLE ARE DYING BY THE MILLIONS ACROSS THE GLOBE, FAMILIES ARE STARVING AND HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS ARE LIVING IN UNIMAGINABLY HIDEOUS CONDITIONS…AND SOMEHOW IT’S OKAY FOR PEOPLE TO SPEND HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS ON ABSOLUTELY MEANINGLESS CRAP???? Because it’s THEIR money, right? They can spend it as they like?

It’s not their goddamned money. They stole it, embezzled it, and squeezed it legally or illegally out of the pockets of every other person on the planet. Wake up world!! Mega-millionaires and billionaires are not people to idolize! They didn’t make billions of dollars simply because they were oh-so-very smart, or a “brilliant businessperson”. They made it because they either inherited 90% of it, or they’re ruthless, disgusting greedy savages who literally will set half the world on fire if it means they can earn another half a million bucks to thrown on the pile, or to spend on a personal helicopter. You quite simply do not get to that rarified air of wealth without being a thief and a murderer, that’s just a fact. Those words, ‘thief’ and ‘murderer’ are not inflammatory over-statements; they are apt and fairly-given titles. Do a little homework sometime, if you don’t believe me. Pick a billionaire and, even conservatively, try and estimate the damage to the world that was done so that man or woman could achieve the bank account they now enjoy. Leaving out athletes, who do sort of luck into their cash but can still be accused to doing their part to gouge the fan (accompanied by the usual self-righteous indignation about ‘having a right’ to get it, and, ‘if they’re gonna pay it, I’m damn well going to take it’), let’s keep our focus on the bankers and corporate heads and so-called “royalty”, oil company patriarchs and all the other devils who ensure that slaughter, famine, grinding poverty and intense suffering still cover most of the earth’s surface so that they can continue to be incredibly wealthy and enjoy their status as god-kings.

And, oh yes, wear champagne-washed jeans.

Someone please offer a good excuse for these people to rob the world of its wealth, horde it all to themselves, and then blow it on useless shit! I mean, I don’t suppose it really matters what they spend it on, unless they’re giving it away (I’ll get to “charity” in another rant), but it does provide an excellent visual of the kind of disgusting excess these people think is totally acceptable behavior Don't forget the taming of the world’s populations by a supplicant media that so many of us just think it’s kinda cool to watch them spend their money by the dump truck-full. As if we’re the ones who are privileged…like the pauper boy “allowed” to watch the King eat himself sick in an eleven-course meal, throwing more scraps to his dogs than the boy’s entire family has eaten in a month.

Look, I’m not a fool, I have no fanciful notions of a perfectly even distribution of wealth. Some needlers might jump on this and argue “what’s the difference?” meaning that any difference in wealth could be considered unfair, but after telling you to f**k off I might also mention that in the real world, there is a difference. The division of wealth we’re talking about here is not the envy of the middle-class family who’s jealous because they can’t afford the size fishing boat that the Joneses up the street can afford, or the extra wing on the house. What we’re talking about here is one TINY group of people who continually steal most of the world’s wealth, and spend it on themselves with complete abandon…while the majority, a massive majority let’s remember, suffers in varying states between struggling to even keep the phone turned on and the kind of poverty that leaves children dead in heaps on mud roads in piles of their own filth…covered so thickly in flies their faces are unrecognizable.

But those jeans sure are nice.
